  有一种蚊子传播一种疾病,科学家发明了一种基因改良过的蚊子和这种蚊子交配,导致后代有缺陷,减少这种蚊子的popularity,可以预防疾病
有些人不同意,原因:
  (1)蚊子数量下降,可能导致其他带有同样病毒的蚊子数量上升,其中可能包括一些有些可能有更厉害的病毒蚊子;
  (2)如果基因改良的蚊子咬人的话,传到人的身上,对人体无益;
  (3)放出这些蚊子可能导致环境问题,可能会对其他物种产生影响,例子是种改良过的菜,但是菜周围的蝴蝶数量减半;

The content of the reading and the listening is totally different to each other in whether the new methods can reduce the population of mosquitoes. To begin with, the author indicates the method significantly diminishes the number of mosquitoes on the targeted species. Yet the speaker says that with the reduction of the targeted mosquito number, other species of mosquito can increase greatly. Those mosquitoes in the increasing can even be more fatal to humans.

In the second place, in the passage, the engineered mosquito will carry the gene to affect their next generation in the expected outcomes. However, from the lecturer, this might not be a good idea since we do not know if the genes will go wrong and creates new disease. Besides, what if humans are bitten by those mosquitoes, the consequences might be deadly, yet the reading further points out that the mosquito bites are all the same.

Thirdly, the method is really environmental friendly because it uses no toxic chemicals. Yet the speaker does not think so, indicating that DNA altered mosquitoes pose potential threats to hurt other species. Recently news revealed the butterfly population was diminished greatly in fifty percent because of the nearby herbicide usage.
