2022年1008雅思写作:老建筑是否应该保护

Some people believe that too much money is spent on looking after and repairing old buildings. We should knock them down and build modern buildings. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

范文:

Too much money is spent looking after and repairing old buildings. Some people think we should knock old buildings down and build new modern ones. To what extent to you agree or disagree.

People think that old buildings should be knocked down and give way to the new buildings. Do you agree or disagree? How important are old buildings to us?

During the process of/with the sweeping trend of(随着城市化的快速发展) urbanization, governments in different countries show different attitudes towards their historic buildings. In some countries, a large number of old-fashioned houses have been demolished(拆除) to give way to modern housing. For my part, it depends on concrete situations(具体情况具体分析).

No one can conceal the fact that(显而易见的是) some old buildings without any historical value are no longer suitable for people to live in, and thus the demolition of them does a great job in(有助于) leaving much more space for new high-rise ones(高楼大厦), which are extremely effective in(有助于) accommodating ever-rising population(容纳越来越多的人口) in cities.  In addition, modern architectural techniques give modern buildings advantages in terms of spatial and material use(空间和材料的使用). Not to mention that much heavier weight should be attached to(更加关注) the safety problem of old buildings for the reason that more than 100 people are killed or injured each year due to the collapse of those houses according to the survey.

However, the importance of restoring old buildings, especially historic ones which represent local unique history and culture, can never be doubted. Although it is true that the renovation of old buildings costs numerous government funds, it is worthy of such expenditure. This is largely because keeping those buildings as they were hundreds of years ago allows local residents to understand their history and culture better and it would also encourage them toinherit traditions from generation to generation(代代相传). Meanwhile, such old buildings, if well preserved, can become a tourist spot and attract thousands of visitors from all over the world. Therefore, it is worthwhile for the government to(值得做) support such an investment.

Based on the analysis above(综上所述), I tend to believe that the conservation of old buildings with historical value may cost a lot but such a practice gets rewards(有回报) in terms of cultural transmission(文化传承). By contrast, those without historical significance ought to be pulled down, especially when they pose safety problems to people.
